Vogue 9100

I’ve actually made Vogue 9100 TWICE so I best talk about both of them together! It’s the perfect flirty sundress and I’m surprised I didn’t make it sooner. From the Very Easy Vogue range, it is exactly that; A scoop neck, princess seam bodice, lined, with gathered rectangle skirt and back zipper. And of course, pockets!!

I sewed size 12 with cup size A for the first and cup B for the second (more why, later). Both are View A (the shorter skirt version) and I skipped the top-stitching. It’s designed for stable wovens like poplin, broadcloth and sateen so my first version was made from a ditsy floral cotton poplin that looked a bit like a Liberty print was picked up from Abakhan a couple of summers ago.

This was the A cup version and it felt great with my non-padded bras but a little too tight with the padded ones. Unfortunately I don’t have great photos of this version, so these snaps will have to suffice to show you how cute it is. I did a lapped zipper in the back, lined the bodice in the same fabric and didn’t bother lining the skirt. It was my birthday dress for 2023!

Flash forward to the Christmas of 2023 and I started making a more glamorous version using a copper metallic cotton by Melody Miller for the Ruby Star Society fabric brand, produced by Moda. It’s called First Light and I love the almost lace-effect flowers which remind me of peonies. The plan was to wear it to my husband’s 40th birthday party in January but sadly that got cancelled.

So I held onto it until Scottish Frocktails! The event was held in Glasgow this September and I talked myself (easily) into driving up for it since I’d not been to Glasgow in about 12 years! Thankfully I knew enough people to head up on my own and spent a lovely day with Jen of Jenerates beforehand.

For stupid reasons, I decided I’d probably only ever wear a padded bra with the glam version and proceeded to use the B cup bodice for my second version which ended up slightly too loose so I had to adjust it, instead of just whizzing it up. And of course, I don’t always want to wear a padded bra so now I prefer the fit of the green one.

The dress went down very well at the event as no one could believe the fabric was a cotton. It has the most incredible shimmer when it catches the light. I wore it with my favourite Mary Jane shoes with pearl flower buckles and curled my hair. The dress looked great with my black patent leather belt but it was just a bit too tight to enjoy the night comfortably. See it in motion here and enjoy the fabric shimmer:
