Time to share something recently photographed! I whipped up this keyhole top at the start of the year in my attempt to make more “pub tops”.
You know… the kind of top that is smart with jeans if you’re popping out for a drink with friends but walking in crappy weather or racing about on public transport so can’t be too formal or fussy. Dressy but not over the top. It makes you feel put together!
S9469 is great for this scenario because of the cheeky keyhole and delicate ties, but has full coverage for chilly nights. I also love that the sleeves of view D are full enough to be stylish but not as unwieldy as balloon sleeves (which definitely don’t fit under a cardigan).
S9469 a super quick sew; Very beginner friendly with no closures and you can practice clipping and notching your neckline for a smooth flat finish, as well as making rouleaux ties (that’s the plural). The sleeve hems are finished with elastic channels. And it’s perfect to showcase printed fabrics.
This stretch crepe de chine Soimoi fabric was from Ebay and spookily enough I had also previously bought it 7 years ago from Abakhan. The top I made back then no longer fits so buying it again gave me the chance to keep wearing this pretty print.
I made a straight size 14 but used the view c hem length cutting line. A neat facing finishes off the neckline which is important to cut from the same fabric if you want to wear your keyhole untied. And with rouleaux ties this narrow, you’ll need a loop turner for easy turn out.
Pretty and versatile, well done! Great easy to make top.
