Butterick 6518
I’ve got a busy Friday planned but loving this outfit and the crisp bright weather we’re having, so am quickly writing about my new make. I made Butterick 6518 view D in Liberty tana lawn from Abakhan Fabrics for a cute ruffled boho top! I left off the view D sleeve hem frill and added an elastic channel.
It’s only available in pdf format but I found Martha’s version while looking for reviews and seriously think it’s an overlooked pattern. I cut a size 10 in the upper bodice and graded to a size 14 at the hip. This needed heavy pattern alterations for the fit on my narrow shoulders. It’s definitely not perfect but much more wearable than my first toile.
Tana lawn is a dream to sew and wear. And the Betsy print is joyous and happy. Do you see the red heart shaped button used on the keyhole for extra cuteness? I used an off-white polycotton for the facings – if I’d used more of the Liberty lawn the print would have shown through from the front I think.
If I made it again I’d increase the size of the frill around the front shoulders to make it more gathered to look more like the envelope art. Also tempted to change the hem to level it off, rather than have a gentle curve, but not in any major rush to do that… probably because I’d have to stop wearing it long enough to put it through my machine!

Saw this lovely top last night on Amy. Looked beautiful. Fabric nice and bright, made me this spring had sprung but, alas the weather was bitter!
