Burda 6918

30 degree weather? I’m all set. This new dress is so easy to wear and makes me very happy when I catch my reflection or look down at myself.

You might remember if you watched the “Fabric Shopping with my Husband” video… I got the most amazing viscose linen print in a tile design from Abakhan in their remnants section. I searched high and low for a second piece of this but no luck.

It really reminds me of like Dolce and Gabbana. La Dolce Vita. The Amalfi coast. Amazing tiles of Spain. Or you know, drinking wine on holiday. Maybe a sangria. I’m getting carried away. But I love the blue. I got just under two metres (1.94m), so I had to have to be really thoughtful about pattern I could choose given the scale of the print and where I positioned each of the motifs.

There were a lot of straight lines and borders in the design so I chose the Burda 6918 bodice so I could position one of the borders the upper bodice edge. I also made sure that I wouldn’t end up with a pair of round motifs right over my bust!

This is a sundress sewing pattern you might have seen in my recent #SewFruity post and YouTube videos. It’s got a cute square neckline with straps wide enough to cover your bra. Perfect for summer! It’s sadly out of print now but could pick up a copy on eBay or Etsy.

The skirt is a simple gathered rectangle as I wanted to make it easier to pattern match the side seams of the skirt. At first I placed a white border at the waist of the skirt but it was so distracting that I unpicked the skirt and cut it shorter at the waist to raise them up higher. Subtle but this less visually distracting. I’ve included a picture of the “before”.

The straps had to be cut at the end from the offcuts but I quite like the position I chose with the blue solid line and round motif on the top of the shoulder.

The back had to be pieced with a pattern matched seam at the centre back (very pleased with how good a match I managed) and then the dress has no closures so it throws on over the head. This dress is definitely coming to the South of France with me next month.
