I’m rounding up my favourite reasons to shop on Etsy and sharing a few of my favourite shops in the process.
Shop Vintage and Unique Fabrics
Sometimes it can feel like everyone in the sewing world is wearing the same fabrics. It can be nice to stand out from the crowd with something sourced overseas or fall in love with a one of a kind vintage fabric.
I’m still shopping from international sellers on Etsy with peace of mind and one of my favourites is still MissMatatabi – she just added new fabrics. For Dolce and Gabbana inspired prints look no further than FabricTurkey. And I recently picked up some sweet vintage cotton from NiceworkVintageRetro which is SO CUTE.
Remember to check the bust size of the pattern as most vintage patterns are single sized. Check the reputation of the seller with their star ratings and reviews to make sure they sell good quality vintage patterns (intact and complete with all pieces and instructions). And watch out for digitised copies of original designs – these usually aren’t done legally and if they’ve messed up the sizing or instructions they may try and pass it off as the original pattern’s problem.
Find sewing supplies
Did you know I like embroidery? I don’t share it on my blog often but I’ve made quite a few fun hoops. One company I definitely recommend is OhSewBootiful because they have full kits if you need extra support and takes the panic out of picking colours.
I also keep my eyes peeled for second hand vintage sewing books and the coolest new sewing tools. Have you checked out Jenerates online shop? She has cool hem pressing tools, wheels to seam allowance to patterns, large spool holders for trims and elastic, AND MORE!
So there we have it… hopefully I’ve piqued your interest! Will I buy that pretty vintage Vogue sundress pattern? Probably, unless you snap it up first.
