Who said it’s the end of summer?! Introducing my bright and bold Barbie dress. I hope you’ve seen the movie!? No spoilers but I definitely recommend it. I wish I could have made this dress before I went as everyone was dressed in full on pink! I still wore my oversized gingham N6707 blouse but this dress would have been even more perfect.
M8321 jumped out at me. It’s similar to the popular Mimi G S9597 but I personally get a better fit from the McCall’s block. This is a pull-on open tie-back elasticated dresses with gathered skirts. I chose View A with it’s narrow shoulder strap bodice and shorter tiered skirt.
This sweet gingham cotton is perfect for Barbie and this dress. It comes in 24 other colours if you’re not a pink person… like peacock or lilac, classic red and blue, and more. Gingham is perfect for this design as you can line the upper edge of the bodice with a stripe just like you can with the tiers on the skirt. I also love how you can ensure a neat hem on the skirt by folding along the stripe lines too!
I made a straight size 12 which was so nice! I’m normally grading out at the waist and hip but the elasticated waist and gathered skirt meant it fit great. You have to make sure you tie the back securely but you can wear a strapless bra underneath the big bow which I LOVE. If you made the straps thicker, you could probably wear a normal bra too.
Guess who made her husband watch a bra-covering bow-tying masterclass 5 times in a row? I think he did a pretty swell job! You wrap the tie lengths around your bra back to ensure the best coverage. Genius!! He’s got a job for life now.
