McCall’s 8392

Would you let a stranger choose your next sewing project? That’s what happened to me in December as Kris from @unsewcial set us a festive Instagram challenge where we secretly picked a sewing project for another maker with a mood board of pattern and fabric suggestions. Learn more about how it worked in her fun YouTube video.

I made a board for Monica of @thatssewmonica with rich colourful hues and a pop of leopard print and secretly sent it off, ready to receive mine from my secret sewist…

WOW! I was told to make a lux sleep set with lace trim in a rich yummy colour. Pattern inspiration came from Vogue multi pack pyjamas and it all oozed glamour. How do you think I did?

Giving up control of what you’re making next is a little scary and I felt like I was letting the board maker down when I struggled to find the right fabric colour… but this copper stretch satin from Minerva felt like it would work and was very nice to sew.

I added a heart shape brown guipure lace trim from eBay after trying, SEVEN alternative laces that were either too big, the wrong colour, wrong material and so on.

This is McCall’s 8392 which is a three piece pattern set. I chose this design because I didn’t want to wait for the Vogue pattern to arrive in the post and knew this would be quicker to sew as it’s not cut on the bias. The pattern includes a cami top with straight neckline edge and slightly flared trousers. The robe has wide flared sleeves trimmed with fringe on the envelope!

I only found out after the big reveal that Caroline @sew.with.caro was my secret sewing Santa who put together my mood board for this look! So sneaky!!
