Let’s try and relieve those January blues!

Hello everyone!
For those of you who have been back at work, school or returning to your normal routine this week I hope it’s been bearable.

Now I’m not saying that January is a depressing month but it can be known to cause the blues on occasion. I won’t bring us all down by thinking more about that.

One thing I’ve always loved about the blogging sewing community is that is shares the wealth. If someone has an overflowing stash they’ll offer it around. Blog milestone? Giveaways are arranged. And if someone receives a bumper pack of patterns well pattern pyramids are formed.

I received this stack of patterns from Kirsty at Top Notch (sewing ninja) before Christmas. There are some realย gems! This isn’t even all of the patterns. It’s one big post parcel.

I selected the Hazel pattern to keep but it was a close call with the lovely yoked jacket or McCalls 5094. I also think the Threads pattern has a lot of potential.

To replenish the pot I added these three patterns!

Now its your turn to win. Just comment on this post before Sunday 19th Midnight GMT and you could win this pack of patterns to take one and pass along.

To enter you must have a Blog, Twitter, Facebook or Instagram account where you can share your giveaway to other sewists.

The giveaway is open internationally so don’t let distance put you off!

Finally just for fun and since you’re commenting anyway I’d love to hear if you’re more of a fan of vintage or modern patterns.

Good luck everyone!

  1. oooh! The Hazel is a lovely dress to make. It’s one of my TNT’s! It’s great! I made it 5 times or so ๐Ÿ™‚
The Style4025 pattern looks very interesting as well!

  2. Good choice, was thinking I’d probably choose the Hazel too! Still some nice patterns though, I’m intrigued by the cape.

Just wanted to say my dear late Mum made me a very similar cape in 1965/6 when I was a young teenager. I wore it with a white frilly blouse I seem to remember. Haven’t made clothes for years now myself, but I do enjoy all your efforts. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. This Pattern Pyramid is brilliant. Each of these patterns are classics to help us recreate styles from Mary Quant inspired 1960’s straight simplistic cuts (McCalls 8420) to a more present day summer dress (McCalls m5094).

Making my own clothes helps me choose my own style e.g. my version of the 60’s suit would be in modern Ponte fabric with more vibrant colours an emerald green with accents of dark grey, but oh no the patterns too small.

I can pick and choose. Not for me the 70’s dress empire line dresses in the Simplicity thread collection, I have too many curves! Nor the 80’s shoulder pads in Vogue Easy, I am short and remember them not looking good on me the first time round.

My choice would be the figure hugging dresses in Project Runway K1913. A great choice a 3/4 sleeved dress in thick jersey for the winter or a classic lined cream capped sleeve for the summer. Ooh doesn’t that sound like a 2014 version of Mary Quant?

What would I add? I have some Burda Style Pattern Magazines that could inspire somebody else, and the pyramid would go on.

  4. I love vintage patterns! These are gorgeous, I tend to find the fits better! I adore the Style 4025!

  5. This idea is super awesome ๐Ÿ™‚ I would totally make the hazel dress or come up with a great idea!!

  6. Count me in! I like both vintage and modern patterns. That princess seamed Style frock looks super nice.

  7. I would love to be in the draw – I’m probably more modern than vintage style – I like the look of the style pattern I think!

    Thanks for organising this!

  8. I’m definitely more of a vintage lover but have been loving the indie patterns I tried last year. Thank you for organising this :0

  9. Oooh, this looks like a great array of patterns, I’d love to throw my name into the hat! I am on the fence with vintage and modern. I don’t want to look like i’m participating in a play, so don’t want to wear all vintage styles, and yet, I do love the look of many of the decades, esp. 60s and 70s. But, I always enjoy moving forward, so can’t wait to see what’s next in the modern world esp, with all the new pattern companies I have come to know over the last year. Fingers crossed!!

  10. What a fantastic variety! I love the look of that princess seamed Style pattern. Count me in please!

  11. Simplicity 6942 – I want to be that girl in the glasses! Fantastic idea!!

  12. Although I have quite the collection of vintage patterns I’m more of a modern pattern gal. I think what intrigues me the most with vintage is the pattern drawings on the envelope. I always love the colors.

I I definitely have more modern than vintage patterns although I do love the vintage aesthetic.

  14. I love vintage patterns but (*shame face*) have never actually made one. I promise to do so if I was lucky enough to get to choose from these! For one, they absolutely win on cover illustrations – the ladies in the tennis dresses are having a whale of a time!

  15. January sure is hard isn’t it? I think it’s hard for us Aussies too as it’s so SO sunny outside and we’re all stuck at work…when we could be at the beach (or sewing)! I like the idea of this sewing pyramid…and I like the pattern you choose too…Vintage patterns are too small for me, so I’m into modern patterns all the way.

  16. Count me in please. I’ve got some patterns in my stash that aren’t quite right for me.

  17. Such a great idea, I’m thinking simplicity k1913 is my bag. Never made a vintage pattern I don’t think so I could be braver! Only just know what I’m doing with modern ones -would you say easier or harder to work with?

  18. Ooooh, some of these are awesome!
I love the cute little tennis dresses (Simplicity 6942), which are even in my size! I also really like the yoked dresses (McCall’s 8420) and Style 4025! It would definitely be hard to choose just one of them!
If I had been you, I would also have been tempted by the Hazel.
I’m more of a modern (and then, indie) kind of gal, but I do love 60s/70s style and would really like to try some vintage patterns from those decades.

  19. […] This is a quick post to share what I’ve been up to and of course reveal who won the pattern pyramid giveaway!! […]

  20. This looks amazing!! As a collector of sewing patterns for over 20 years this sound fab.. how do I play?? SS

It’s good fun isn’t it! Well it’s a bit of luck really. Shannon of ShanniLoves won this one so when she reposts the bundle on her blog enter there and see if you win. I’d Google pattern pyramid to see which blogs are currently hosting similar giveaways as they’re quite a popular thing! Marie had one a few weeks ago ๐Ÿ™‚
