Last Saturday a group of lovely ladies met in Nottingham. It was the first for a new meet up of creative and crafty bloggers from the Midlands (and me as an honorary visitor) co-hosted by Samantha and Kat.
The group met at a cafe in the centre and proceeded to introduce ourselves and share about our blogs, interests and current projects. I admired the variety in everyone’s interests – there was a feeling of openness to try different things and experiment, to truly try to be creative with whatever you turn your hand to.
We were all given a fab goodie bag of crafty supplies from HomeCrafts UK to use on a project. My bag included fabric for sewing with, since that’s what I’m so keen on. But there were also some interesting bits and pieces such as a card plant pot that you can decorate, a guide to the art of paper quilling and this crazily huge reel of selvedge yarn that I can crochet or knit with!
Thank you HomeCrafts for providing us with lovely products to try out. I’m also thinking of trying this teacup candle kit from the site! There are so many interesting kits available.
Next up we all swapped secret gifts. I had one of those spooky feelings that the gift I brought would somehow be the one left for me to have and it almost was! Marie was forced to take it instead but I think she was pretty pleased hehe.
I was lucky enough to get a gift from Kat! It had gorgeous button print cotton, a Cath K notebook and some very apt tea themed ribbon. She also wrapped my parcel in the prettiest lace that I just had to rescue.
Sam and Kat were great leaders, luring us across to the local Cath Kidston branch when we could have easily descended into an afternoon of more gossip, more banana bread and more tea. At the shop we heard all about the new fabric lines for SS14 and Cath’s process for choosing prints. She releases an unbelievable number of prints each season and has print scouts travelling the world to gather inspiration. There was a seriously awesome safari print and Marie was giggling for a good minute over a pink Giraffe.
The ladies finally they steered us through town to The Bead Shop for a free taster session where we made some cute earrings.
They have an intriguing selection of workshops (tiaras anyone?) that I would definitely investigate if I lived closer.
All in all a lovely day for a gatecrasher from Yorkshire!
